Royal Swag

Promotional products were all the rage in England last month, as they celebrated the Diamond Jubilee, recognizing the Queen’s reign for 60 years. Souvenirs ranging from a Lego in the shape of the Queen (complete with real diamond-encrusted crown) and high-quality bells to cookie tins and imprinted cookies were on sale everywhere. Chat With Us

Excerpt from a recent live chat on how to manage virtual employees. For complete transcript, go to www.asicentral. com/CounselorChat.

Nicholas: How do you keep remote employees motivated?

Dave Vagnoni – Counselor: Clear goals need to be agreed upon in advance. Goals could include meeting with a certain number of prospects or clients daily, getting referrals or specific marketing strategies through Twitter and Facebook.

George: This is my first foray into working with a virtual employee, who I hired two weeks ago. I only checked in with him twice so far, once by e-mail and once by phone. Is that enough?

Dave Vagnoni – Counselor: Consider setting up daily Skype meetings – once in the morning and once at the end of the day – to track progress.

George: That’s a free service, right?

Dave Vagnoni – Counselor: Yes, Skype is free. I also just mentioned a service called Skitch, which lets you see what your virtual employees are seeing on their screens.

Kelly Ann: Should I hire someone who has a proven history of working virtually?

Dave Vagnoni – Counselor: The rules are up to you. Hire people you think would excel at their job. The key is to train them and provide them with tools to communicate best with you virtually. For example, pivotaltracker.Com allows a team to follow, together, the progress of projects.
